STITCH MINISTRY

UMW has one big fundraiser of the year and that is selling items at our Country Store during the homemade chicken/noodle Harvest Dinner which will be held Saturday, November 5.

We are currently working on several projects and invite everyone to come and join in, even if you’ve never attended and even if it is only for a short time.  We need people to cut, press, and sew during this time of fellowship.

Our next get together will be on Wednesday, September 21, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.  Please contact Kathy C if you have questions or need more information.

HOMEMADE NOODLES

Fall is almost here and do you know what that means?  Yes, it is time to make noodles.  Please join us in the Fellowship Hall on October 5 at 6:00 P.M.  Maybe you like to make dough – or use a rolling pin – or turn the crank on the noodle-making machine.  We set up several stations and there is something for everyone.  Please feel free to bring your cutting board, or rolling pin, or favorite knife and join us for a night of fellowship.  We all pitch in and there is something for everyone!

GOOD NEWS CLUB

The Good News Club will start at Triton School on September 12.  New Life UMC helps sponsor this club with monetary donations and snacks.  Rose is collecting money for the snacks and thanks you in advance for your support.

HARVEST DINNER MEETING

There will be a meeting on September 7 in the Fellowship Hall at 7 pm to start the plans for a successful Harvest Dinner.  Anyone with ideas, suggestions, or willingness to be involved, PLEASE COME.

TRUSTEES REPORT

Thank you for supporting our current project, which is the “Buy a Block” project.  The walls, ramp and new drainage pipes have been installed.  Hopefully the wooden railing will be attached to the walls soon.  The railing has been power washed and new posts have been purchased.  We are in the process of replacing some of the spindles, and as soon as that has been completed it will be ready for staining and then installation.

CAUTION:  Until the railing is re-installed, please be cautious when walking or driving around the north side of the building.  PLEASE drive slowly and everyone stay a safe distance away from the construction barrels and tape.

To date we have received over $1,000 in donations toward this project which has a goal of $7,000.  We get closer each Sunday.  All monetary donations are GREATLY appreciated.  Please make your check payable to New Life United Methodist Church and note “Trustees” on the memo line.  Or, put cash in one of the brown envelopes in the holders on the back of each pew.  For tax purposes, if you want credit for your cash donation, be sure to put your name on a piece of paper and place it in the envelope along with your donation.

Thanks in advance for your support to help maintain your church by donation to the “Buy a Block” build a wall project.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE

As we promote our children to new Sunday School classes each fall, it seems any "thank you" is inadequate to offer to the dedicated teachers and their substitutes who make it possible for us to offer learning opportunities every Sunday to every age from birth through the 100s.  Giving hours to preparation is an expectation of the teachers, but what benefits—both in seeing their students learn and grow spiritually and in growing spiritually themselves through service and the growth that comes from those hours of preparation.  So a huge, heart-felt, but totally inadequate Thank You to our current teachers and to those who substitute when asked, specifically Lynn, Peggy, and Brooke in recent weeks.  Our teachers include Darlene S, ages 3 through kindergarten; Jamie, grades 1-4; Randy, grades 5-8; Kim, grades 8-12; adult teachers Bob W, Seekers class; Jane B and Linda V, Lamplighters class; and Sharon and others who lead Potter’s Clay class.  If you would like to teach or substitute, be sure to let Pastor Randy or Janet know.  And if you aren’t a regular Sunday School attendee, give it a try for a few Sundays to see what you are missing and how your own spiritual growth can be enhanced by that 9:30 to 10:20 am time period each Sunday.

Starting Sunday, September 4, children ages 3 through high school who attend Sunday School will receive a reward token for that Sunday’s attendance.  After the end of each quarter (beginning of December, March, June, and September) they will have a chance to redeem their tokens for a gift.  If you have items that would be appropriate for the redemption gifts (anything from stuffed animals to CD or DVD players, CDs, DVDs, books, gift cards, etc.), please let Janet know what you have to donate.  Or if you would be willing to sponsor a gift by donating the money to purchase it, please let Janet know that also.  We hope to encourage more regular attendance among our youth so that we have more opportunities to enhance their spiritual knowledge and growth.

WALK TO SUPPORT THE PREGNANCY CARE CENTER

If you would like to help provide financial support for the Pregnancy Care Center of Shelby County, you can to participate in Equally Unique Walk for Life 2011.  This 2-mile event will be held Saturday morning, October 15, at East Columbus Christian Church.  Check out the poster on the bulletin board by the water fountain.  Pick up a sponsor pledge form from the envelope by the poster.  The Pregnancy Care Center provides free services including pregnancy tests, information on all pregnancy options, material assistance like diapers/formula/other supplies, one-on-one peer counseling, abstinence education in schools, purity programs in churches, and abortion recovery Bible studies and support groups.  For more information call 812-378-4114 or 866-510-5067 or go on-line to www.affirminglifeonline.org

ALL ABOUT THE NEW LIFE CHOIR

The New Life Choir will begin practicing for the upcoming season on Sunday, September 4 at 8:30 a.M. in the sanctuary.  The choir practices and sings two Sundays a month, usually on the 1st and 3rd Sunday.  We also have extra practice time after church about once a month.  These practices will follow a delicious pitch-in dinner.

The yearly special performances generally include the Christmas Eve Service and the Easter Sunrise Service.  We also present our Patriotic Cantata three or four times throughout the year at various locations.

If singing is “your thing” please join us.  It requires only a small time commitment and you will receive much more than you have given!

REMEMBER SEPTEMBER 11

Special service of remembrance of the 10th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center will be held at 10:30 a.m. at New Life with the dedication of a new statue in the Prayer Garden.

At 2:00 p.m. a remembrance service will be held at Whispering Hope Cemetery,

625 Progress Parkway, Shelbyville.

NEW LIFE MEN’S PRAYER BREAKFAST

Thanks to Hank and Perry for bringing the food and juice for the first breakfast.  Thanks to Reverend Jerry for bringing the devotion.

The next breakfast will be September 18 at 8:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall and the menu is 2 kinds of gravy, biscuits, cereal, milk, and juice.

The breakfasts will be held every third Sunday and all men are invited and encouraged to join in.

CONGRATULATIONS!

To Brooke for receiving a $500 scholarship from the Indiana Conference.  If you are a high school junior or senior, check with Pastor Randy to see if there are church-related scholarships or low-interest loans available through the Conference or the denomination.
